“Your Kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven.” - Matthew 6:10
I used to view this portion of The Lord’s Prayer as purely future tense – that God’s perfect will would be made complete and brought to wholeness when Jesus returns – restoring the sinless condition of the Garden of Eden and setting all of creation free from the bondage that sin has claimed over it. A new Heaven and a new Earth back into right-standing with our Heavenly Father. And while that is true (ref. Revelation 21:1) there are also present tense implications of God’s Kingdom and His will coming to earth now.
For all who believe that Jesus died and rose again, and have received Him as their personal Saviour, God’s Kingdom reigns within us. (ref. Luke 17:21). The Kingdom of God is within our grasp, as His Spirit takes up residence in us.
Praying for God’s will to be done takes courage and the guts to let go of our own desires, our own will. To have the audacity to trust Him through whatever it is He leads us to. When we have a heart postured to seek God, and know the Spirit’s voice, we accomplish bringing His will to earth by walking in His ways.
This portion of the prayer begs us to look inward and check the motives of our own hearts. How often do I want my will over God’s will to be done when I approach Him in prayer?
Are we willing to be the people that God uses to make His Kingdom known on earth? If so, are we willing to give ourselves as an offering before Him? Are we willing to build God’s Kingdom and lay down our own?
Praying for God’s Kingdom to come to earth, calls us to pray for His righteousness, His Justice, His peace, and His mercy to be established in us, so that our lives would be an echo of His ways.
Let’s be women who choose to be about God’s kingdom and not our own.
Let’s make heavenly ripples in the earthly ponds God’s placed us.
